Taiwan Strait Race
RHKYC Taiwan Strait Race 2012 starts Friday 1 June
30 May 2012
The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is proud to announce the second Taiwan Strait Race, a 350nm Category One Offshore Race across the South China Sea from Hong Kong to Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
The race will start at 1215hrs in Hong Kong waters, from a line laid in the vicinity of Tai Long Pai (Shek O Rock).
Race Chairman Leon Chan is looking forward to the Race: “the Race has been nurtured from a rally with only two boats sailing from Hong Kong to Kaohsiung a few years ago and this is the second formal Taiwan Strait Race organised as a Category 1 Offshore race by the Club.
Although we only have four entrants, we are very optimistic that over time this Race will attract more competitors. This 350nm Race is an excellent opportunity for novice offshore sailors to get a taste of the ocean in warm weather, on a trip spanning only two or three nights.
This year we have a forecast of 20kts of breeze from the east or north east instead of the usual south westerlies so it’s going to be an exciting and challenging trip!” he said.
The Taiwan Strait Race 2012 is organised and conducted by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) with assistance and support from Kaohsiung Sailing Association (KSA) and the Chinese Taipei Sailing Association (CTSA).
