Vulcain Trophy presented by Business Décision

Victory of Realstone Sailing

Monday 28 May 2012

After a calm Saturday, the Sunday at the Open de Crans offered some great sailing with 5 races and a victory of Realstone Sailing (3 wins out of 5 races) in front of Artemis Racing skippered by Michel Desjoyeaux and de Rham Sotheby’s of Philippe Cardis.

Who said that stars were not participating in the Vulcain Trophy presented by Business & Decision this year? Indeed, we met the French champion Michel Desjoyeaux who came to steer Artemis Racing alongside Yvan Ravussin. Nicolas Charbonnier, Olympic Medallist in Beijing and dinghy World Champion was at the helm of Alinghi (to replace Ernesto Bertarelli). Fred Le Peutrec was at the helm of Zen Too, and Okalys welcomed the French Jean-Christophe Mourniac as tactician – Eric Monnin being busy on the World Match Racing Tour. Yet the ones we love to call the “Kids” of Realstone Sailing (Regatta Training Center in Geneva) with Jerome Clerc at the helm won the event.

“We wanted to get our revenge after the Grand Prix Les Ambassadeurs (ndrl. Realstone had finished second behind Alinghi, level on points). The pressure has been rising today. We knew we had few races to make the difference and the light breeze was a challenge too. Also with opponents like Michel Desjoyeaux or Nicolas Charbonnier, we are even happier with this win! “said Jerome Clerc.

The fight for the second position was also interesting. Michel Desjoyeaux on Artemis Racing said: “The day was fabulous! I was very doubtful this morning, especially after yesterday. But at the end we had a fantastic day and the wind conditions left the game very open. However I have to say that Realstone Sailing is really above the rest of the fleet! “.

De Rham Sotheby’s took a great 3rd place: “We are fortunate to have a very good tactician: Christian Wahl is really a magician of the lake, even when we did stupid things, he managed to catch them by a remarkable tactics,” said Philippe Cardis, skipper of De Rham Sotheby’s.

The next appointment is a double event to be held the weekend of 8, 9 and 10 June, with the Open de Versoix on Friday and Sunday, and the Genève-Rolle-Genève on Saturday 9 June, known as the rehearsal of the famous Bol d’Or Mirabaud race. The D35 catamarans will therefore be among themselves on Friday and Sunday in Versoix, but then, they will join a fleet of several hundred boats to one of the “great classics” of Lake Geneva!
